Technology by MAN Truck & Bus for efficient and environmentally-friendly mobility
Today, buses and trucks are already an extremely efficient means of transport: a MAN coach carrying 50 passengers produces only 16 grammes of CO2 for every kilometre travelled. A modern MAN 40 ton semitrailer truck can transport a payload of 26 tons and produces only 33 grammes of CO2 per kilometre for every ton transported. Since the 1960's it has been possible to reduce the fuel consumption of trucks by about a third – despite the higher distances travelled and more stringent emission regulations.
This reduction is due in part to the modern diesel engines developed by MAN that have since reached an efficiency of nearly 50 percent. MAN has been actively supporting and preparing the ground for advances in engine technology for more than 100 years, a tradition that started with Rudolf Diesel who developed his engine of the same name together with MAN through to series maturity. Modern diesel engines developed by MAN have a range of outputs between 150 and 680 HP and are extremely fuel-efficient thanks to optimum thermodynamic conditions, high ignition pressures and low friction. All MAN engines are available as EEV versions. The optional EEV (Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) emissions standard sets much stricter exhaust values than the Euro-5 standard.
The MAN TipMatic® automatic gearbox delivers more economy by assisting the driver during gearchanging and ensures that the most economic gear is always used.
The MAN HydroDrive® with switch-on/switch-off front-wheel drive offers unique efficiency technology that significantly expands the range of applications for trucks and increases the utilisation potential of the fleet.
Less unladen weight = more payload = more transport efficiency. MAN consistently uses lightweight construction in the development of its trucks and buses, as every extra kilogram of weight reduces the payload and increases fuel consumption.
