The mobility of the future:
Research & development
Studies prove it: the amount of transport and traffic on Europe's roads will rise considerably over the long term. At the same time, decreasing supplies of the raw material oil will lead to increasing prices, making transport more expensive. That is why MAN is putting intensive research into the challenges that will result from these trends, thus taking over responsibility for sustainable mobility. Even today, MAN is developing efficient transport solutions for tomorrow.
The researchers at MAN are concentrating not only on consistently optimising buses and trucks to make them more economical but also on the entire value-added chain, from alternative drive concepts and sources of energy to the optimum transport infrastructure. For example, the driver assistance systems of the future will improve traffic flow and find vacant parking spots for the driver's rest periods.
Besides its work on innovative aerodynamic concepts, MAN is also doing intensive advanced development on alternative drive concepts and is committed to the use of alternative energy sources. A major element of MAN's research activity is the collaboration with partners in science and industry with the objective of developing sustainable mobility for the future, such as in the AKTIV research initiative (the acronym comes from the German name of the initiative: "Adaptive and Cooperative Technologies for Intelligent Traffic").
